Nightbringer- a poem by Nick

Nightbringer

Monstrous Beast
Lord of Death
Bane of all
Master of the Stars!
Who can contest such unmatchable power?
Who can stand before with still knees?

Silently he appears
Fear precedes him; Darkness follows him.

Cries, Cries all around
Clouded Confusion
Terrifying glimpses
And Death.

Dark is his will
Revenge gnaws at the edge of his mind always
Powerful are his ways
Obstacles concern him not
None shall survive.

But wait!
Below on the cleft!
A hero challenges him!
The one tears apart dozens of enemies to get to the boastful hero
The two clash bloodily together
The Grey hero holds back death itself.

The fight wages on for hours
Lesser brethren of the hero join the epic battle
Others try to help with the Monstrosity
But they are driven away by its unspeakable terror and dread

Finally the hero delivers a blow!
The lesser Grey ones cheer with admiration of their unbeatable hero
But the one does not fall

With one deadly swipe the hero collapses under the one’s potent strength
The Grey ones fall silent, seeing their fate to die at the hands of the terrible one.
They lose their cheer of battle
And realize the foolishness of even hoping to beat the one.
None shall survive.

All grows dark and even the bravest of heart are drained of strength
The first two breathe their last breath
The rest fall to their knees, shaking in fear.

The one passes over the hero as he hovers towards the remnant
Suddenly the hero thrusts his sword up into the beast in a last burst of courage and a deep desire to defeat the beast
The others see the time to fight is now
They leap in the air, swords drawn.

As one they strike
The hero drives his sword in all the more
And they hack and hack

And when the one has fallen
Who is left alive?
And for those left alive,
Who can hope to stand?
Who can face Necrodermis?
For they all fell on that day,
Fighting for their lives and others,
Fighting to kill
The Nightbringer.
